Job Description:

The Neighborhood Partnership Program is looking for a highly motivated person to serve as the Program Assistant for the Mustangs on the Move program located at John Muir High School in Pasadena, CA.

OVERVIEW:

The Mustangs on the Move program provides enrichment activities to students at John Muir High School in Pasadena, California. The Neighborhood Partnership Program at Occidental College is a partner of Mustangs on the Move program by providing after school tutoring and homework assistance as well as managing a computer lab. This program not only serves as a basis to increase academic achievement but also provides a safe space for students to congregate after school.

We welcome all qualified applicants to submit their resumes. Though the position is targeted to graduate school students with an interest in K - 12 education and educational outreach programs, we will consider any applicant with an interest in helping students succeed academically.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Director of Neighborhood Partnership Program, the Program Assistant helps coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Mustangs on the Move after school tutoring program.
Responsibilities include:
• Implement and supervise tutoring program at assigned school.
• Supervise college student tutor coordinator.
• Assist in coordinating support for each site’s training schedules and procedures.
• Recruit high school students to attend the program.
• Maintain records of participation and the results of that participation.
• Help collect data on students served by the program. Working knowledge of excel necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this position must have a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of experience and education and experience working with underrepresented and underserved. The candidate must demonstrate competency in the following areas: Public speaking and group facilitation skills; strong organizational skills, especially data management and monitoring heavy email activity; event planning and promotion; ability to encourage and empower others to lead and contribute to the program. Experience working with African-American and Latino student populations. Candidate must have a driver’s license and car. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
